The Theremin Orchestra

concentrates on the sensuallity of touchless instruments and emphasizes the use of the termen-vox, as a controller for various anologue synthesizers and other instruments, and female voices in similarity and contrast to the termen-vox's electronic voice.

TOUCHLESS I, a radio concert with theremin players in Vienna - Moscow- and Madrid, part of the project Recycling theFuture on the 4th of December 1997, is the precurser and starting point to TOUCHLESS II. In a five days seminar at the Theremin Center in Moscow Andre Smirnov, Yuri Spitsin, Günther Gessert and me worked out the basic musical structures for the moscow part.

With Lana Aksenova, Günther Gessert, Elisabeth Schimana Andre Smirnov and Yuri Spitsin in Moskow, Ostankino Tower - Andrew Garton, Christoph Kurzmann, Sergio Messina and Robin Rimboud in Vienna - Pedro Lopez in Madrid

TOUCHLESS II brings all this radioconcert people together into the rooms of the Minoritenkirche and continues to spinn an idea: the termen-vox as a universal controlling unit of an electronic working place. This orchestra functions as a pool of ideas, because of the members very different, but at the same time very specific, musical and technical backgrounds and inputs.

At seven possible places in the church seven working places for the ten musicians will be setted up. Each of this places will have its own monitoring which will work at the same time as the soundsystem for the church. Each theremin has its own invisible field, probably desturbed by the moving audiance. The voice of Olga Melanichs classical played theremin will put the church into a sounding state of uncertainty.
